A Message to All

We are an organization of words, and yet there are none that truly feel right at the moment. But we at Broadleaf Writers will no longer remain silent while members of the black community are the targets of systemic racism and violence. We stand in opposition to all acts of oppression, discrimination, injustice, and systemic racism. We stand with our black brothers and sisters.

It’s time for change and it’s upon us all to speak up and to act.

We are launching an ongoing initiative to be a platform for black voices. The stories must be heard, the songs must be sung, and we must listen, learn, and rise together. Additionally, we have created a sponsorship program for black writers who do not have the resources to attend our annual conference. For 2020, we will sponsor three writers and welcome sponsorship of more from our community of writers. We will continue to support this program for the foreseeable future and we are engaged with members of the black community on the best methods and platforms to pursue further efforts to educate, support, and activate our community of writers. We welcome all insight and opportunity to further the discussion.

Speak up. Act. Rise together. It’s time for change. Together, we will make it.
