No subject in a writer’s effort to get published is more daunting and anxiety-inducing than writing a query letter. It’s the pick-up line for your manuscipt, the one chance you may have to earn the attention of a literary agent or editor. In one page, you’re covering comp titles, word counts, genre, a synopsis, biographical info, all while offering a voice that encourages a further look.
But how do you put it all together? How do you stand out?
On Sunday, October 9th, we open our day’s schedule with a brand-new session! As they did for your First Pages, our literary agents will sit once more, this time to listen to your query letters! This will be your chance to hear what agents have to say about the query letters our attendees have submitted! As with the First Pages Critique, if you are not up for submitting, no worries! You can still gain from their insights and use all you learn to get yours right! But we do recommend you submit! After all, your submissions remain anonymous!
All submissions must be received no later than Wednesday, October 5th.
Submission Guidelines:
- Email your submission to Zachary Steele at zach@broadleafwriters.com
- Include the name you are registered under in the body of your email. DO NOT put your name on the query letter you submit.
- Attach your first page to the email, as either a Word Document or .pdf.
- Submissions may be pre-selected to ensure variety. They will not be returned, and authors will not be notified if their work will be read during the conference program.
- Please ensure your query letter uses Arial or Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, double-spaced.
- Each submission should indicate the title and genre of the work in your query letter. DO NOT include the authors name.
- Do not send more than one query. All additional files will be discarded.
- Do not include any correspondence or paperwork regarding other matters.
