Welcome to the next installment of the Broadleaf Member Spotlight featuring romance, fantasy, and biographical author Yolanda Faye Daniel!
She started writing at a young age, winning an award for a poem as a child. The poems and storytelling Yolanda creates are her utopia. Something she feels entirely and uniquely belongs to her.
Yolanda’s first novel was completed in 2000. The romance took her two years to complete. She jumped through all the querying hoops, but had to endure through the no’s.
Then life took over. She had a family to take care of and a career as a federal analyst to grow. Writing ended up on the back burner.
But once those kids grew up and headed off to college, Yolanda wanted to reignite her stories.
That’s when she attended the annual Broadleaf Writers Association Conference. She had been incredibly nervous, thinking everyone would feel like she didn’t know what she was doing. What Yolanda found was community and support. These were her people. Her tribe.
Now Yolanda has a sci-fi fantasy novel that she self published called Starfall: Book 1 of Telluric, The Queen’s Children. It’s widely available on Amazon, Google, and Barnes & Noble.
This dedicated pantser enjoys being a rule breaker. She won’t be constrained by one genre or show horned into following an outline. Too often, her outline starts becoming the novel anyway. Whatever inspiration pops into her head will make it onto the page. Making sure all those ideas are in the right place is what editing is for.
